My work investigates personal and collective mythologies. I juxtapose fragments of video in order to investigate how we blur and complicate moments in our personal and collective memories, transforming them into myth. I often reference the screen to investigate the act of looking from internet-distance, asking how we are shaped by gazing at ourselves and others online. Inspired by my hybrid identity: Filipino-Armenian American, mixed-race and queer, I also work with ideas of translation, collective trauma and generational transformation and loss. An evocative sound design, alluding to the frailty and vulnerability of our human condition, is created by manipulating noises emitted from household objects.
